Should I Colour Or Perm My Hair In Winter? By Expertease for Hair & Beauty Call Us On 08 9418 8874
Winter can be brutal on your hair. Old Man Winter, heat styling appliances and indoor heating systems suck out much needed moisture.
But the bottom line is this. If you take care of your hair, there’s really no reason not to continue colouring or perming. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again:
The condition of your hair determines how well your treatments perform.
If your hair is dry and over processed, please do not ask us to add chemicals to your locks. We just cannot in good conscience do it.
Instead, we recommend you make these steps a part of your winter hair routine. Follow them without fail and your hair will love you all through the colder months.
• Do not clarify your hair very often. We love clarifying shampoos, but in the winter, they must be used less frequently. These shampoos do remove product build up, but they also remove oil and moisture from your hair. Avoid products with a silicone derivative. These coat the hair and are more difficult to remove.
• Condition your hair! It’s all about keeping the moisture content up in the winter. Condition your hair when you wash it, deep condition it weekly, and if need be, use a leave in conditioner to keep your hair plump and protected. However, do NOT condition your hair 24 hours before getting a perm. It will affect how well the perm holds.
• Avoid heated appliances as much as possible. Too much heat is drying, so just ease up. We know this is hard, but consider a half-updo. Or, if your hair is longer, put it up in a bun. This will help protect it from the elements, too.
• Get regular trims. This is really important for the health of your hair. Ask us about an in salon deep conditioning treatment, if you’re still having a challenge getting ahead of the cold.
