10 FAQ’s About Getting Hair Extensions
1. “Does it hurt when hair extensions are applied?”
Not at all! In fact, if it does, you should leave that place of business immediately. Stylists, like ours, are trained in all aspects of the application and removal of hair extensions. Tension is firm but comfortable. There should never be any pulling!
2. “How do I brush my hair with extensions?”
Use a soft bristle brush and start from the bottom of your hair and work your way up.
3. “How do I sleep with hair extensions?”
Gently tie your hair while sleeping. This will prevent your extensions from tangling. Use a satin scarf or sleep cap for best results.
4. “How do I care for my extensions?”
Apply a leave-in conditioner frequently and after shampooing. Detangle hair gently with a wide toothcomb. If you shampoo at night, make sure your hair is completely dry before going to bed. Air drying is best. Or, if you must blow dry, make sure to set the dryer on low heat and speed.
5. “What shampoo do I use?”
Use a mild moisturizing shampoo. Lather gently and work the shampoo down the hair. Rinse and blot dry.
6. “Can I color my own extensions at home?”
No! All hair extensions have gone through an intense chemical color process to get their color. If you want to change the color of your extensions, it’s best to let us do it with salon color.
7. “What are the best styling tools to use with my extensions?”
Use a looper brush or a smooth styling comb. Start at the ends and work your way up, brushing or combing in a downward motion.
8. “What styling products should I use and avoid with my extensions?”
Do not spray your extensions with conditioners or any silicone products that can cause the braids to slip. Use only alcohol free products on extensions. Avoid over use to prevent product build up.
9. “What are the best tools to use for styling my extensions?”
Heated styling appliances can only be used on 100% human hair extensions! Use conditioning ionic ceramic heat styling tools whenever possible. And use the lowest temperature level possible that’s still effective.
Overuse of blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons will shorten the life of human hair extensions.
10. “How do I remove my hair extensions?”
You can either have them cut out (but that would make your hair very short!) or preferably, let us take them out. We will apply a special solvent that will release the bond.
Proper care is the key to keeping your extensions looking fabulous. And remember, any other questions you have, just ask us! We’re happy to help!
