Case in point: You want to lighten your hair more than three shades. Suppose you’re a brunette who wants to go blonde. Even if your hair doesn’t look like it’s got any red tones in it, ALL dark hair has some red pigment.
Trying to lighten your hair in one step will most likely turn it a not so lovely shade of orange. (This was a great shade during Elizabethan times. Not so much now.)
